The Vegvisir is a magical symbol that was plotting Icelanding peoples on boats in order not to lose the way - "If this sign is carried, one will never lose one's way in storms or bad weather, even when the way is not known".

The Vegvísir, often called the Viking compass, is an Icelandic magical stave believed to help the bearer find their way, particularly through rough weather. It appears in the Huld Manuscript, a 19th-century Icelandic grimoire, and is not found in earlier Viking Age artifacts. While not a literal compass, it symbolizes guidance, protection, and finding one's way, and is popular in Norse neo-paganism and Viking-inspired art.
