Why is malachite considered toxic? Because malachite contains a high percentage of copper, it can be toxic to humans - but - it is primarily only malachite dust that is forms during cutting and polishing that is toxic as it can cause issues when inhaled, ingested or when left on contact with the skin. In the event your malachite is broken, avoid touching it. If you must pick up or move damaged malachite, please wash your hands after handling.
