Grecian Theodorus puzzle padlock and key

This metal brainteaser puzzle is based on an ancient artifact. Open the lock using the tools provided. However, it is not as simple as it appears. 

Trick locks are designed to function more as a puzzle than a security measure. Trick locks have unusual triggers to open them. Some are simple; others are multi-step insanity. Some are solvable with few minutes of effort while others may take hours of experimentation. As with so many puzzles, what is intuitive to one person may be a nightmare for another.

For over 6000 years, humans have used some form of lock to secure their goods from would be thieves and malcontents. The most common lock is the padlock or ‘Warded Lock’ and is credited to famed Greek inventor and sculptor Theodorus of Samos. Known for his work in bronze casting and development of tools such as the lathe, the key, the level, and more. It is said that Theodorus invented a lock so challenging, not even the most skilled thieves of the time could crack it. Unfortunately, the designs for this lock have been lost to antiquity, until now.
